The Virus Of Fear

The Virus Of Fear

Fear. It is necessary, it is prevalent, and unfortunately, it is consuming our thoughts at this particular time. Whether it is the main character or an extra, fear eloquently plays the role you allow it to have in your mind. The instant fear has permission to creep in, it attacks the imagination first and foremost. Scenarios that have never happened before are now a possibility. Slow down the consumption of fear and focus of the why behind thoughts + actions

Fear is necessary

Fear is the most universal emotion. No matter your age, ethnicity, or culture, whenever we are frightened, we all tend to have the same reaction. Some fears are innate. The majority of the population bond over common phobias like snakes, public speaking, and death. Other worries are labeled as acquired. Acquired fears are phobias we have chosen to develop like, clowns, heights, and insects. Fear is an emotion that physically drains the blood from your core and sends it to your limbs for a flight or fight response. That is why it is common for people who are startled to jump backward or hit the person that frightened them. Fear is supposed to be a protective emotion to keep us healthy. Unfortunately, most use fear as an excuse to put their best lives on hold.

Fear is prevalent

One of the reasons fear can spread so rapidly throughout populations is because of something called emotional contagion. Emotional contagion is the drive that we, as social animals, have to mimic one another. Think of fear as a trend, no one wants to get left out of a movement, so we all give in and try to adapt to whatever is currently prevalent. Also known as: 2020 Toilet Paper Gate. Panic spreads like wildfire, and before you know it, something that was once a casual purchase is causing people to wait outside of grocery stores hours prior to their opening time.

Fear is consuming our thoughts

II Timothy 1:7 King James Version

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

This verse is found in many Sunday School curriculums and Children's Church lessons. As children grow, they put an emphasis on concepts that may frighten them. It is up to the adults to ease their minds. As Christians, we have the responsibility to calm the minds of the people in this world. See the panic of your neighbor as an opportunity to spread God's love.

Fear is contagious, but so is joy, admiration, and love. Take this sensitive time and be a light to those around you. Do not spread panic (or germs) Comfort your loved ones and walk in wisdom.
